ODM Central Committee Charts Expansion Plan, Raises Concerns Over Economy and UDA Relations
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Central Committee has unveiled a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the party’s presence nationwide, while also addressing key political and economic concerns affecting the country.
The meeting, held on April 16, 2026, was chaired by Party Leader Oburu Oginga and marked the second sitting of the committee this year. Members reviewed internal party progress, including the successful National Delegates Convention held in March at the ASK Showgrounds in Nairobi.
The committee commended party organs for organizing a peaceful and well-coordinated convention, as well as the National Elections Coordinating Committee for overseeing largely smooth grassroots elections, now reported to be 98 percent complete.
Push for Nationwide Expansion
Among the key resolutions, ODM announced plans to intensify its grassroots mobilization efforts across the country, particularly in its strongholds. Members in areas where elections remain incomplete have been urged to resolve disputes through internal party mechanisms.
The party also revealed plans to hold youth conventions in 25 counties, starting with Nairobi on April 20, followed by Mombasa on April 26. These engagements are expected to strengthen youth participation and energize the party’s support base ahead of future political activities.
Assurances on Fair Nominations
ODM reassured its members and supporters of its commitment to conducting free and fair nominations, promising equal treatment for all aspirants. The party further announced that a digital portal for elective positions will soon be launched to streamline the application process.
Concerns Over UDA Relations and Economy
On the political front, the committee expressed concern over recent remarks by officials from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), calling for mutual respect between political parties to maintain stability.
The meeting also addressed the country’s economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of fuel. ODM urged the government to implement measures to cushion citizens from the growing financial strain.
Call for Justice and Accountability
Additionally, the committee acknowledged progress made in compensating victims of police brutality but called on the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to fast-track the process.
As ODM moves to consolidate its internal structures and expand its reach, the party’s latest resolutions signal a renewed push to strengthen its political footing while engaging with broader national issues.
