A Kenyan court has dismissed an application seeking to nullify the registration of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), allowing the political outfit linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to remain legally registered.

The petition had challenged the party’s registration, arguing that the process was flawed and should be invalidated. However, the court declined to grant the orders sought, ruling that there were insufficient grounds to cancel the party’s registration.

The decision is seen as a significant legal victory for Gachagua and the DCP, which has been positioning itself as a key political force ahead of the 2027 General Election.

With the court’s ruling, the party is expected to continue its political activities, including nationwide consultations, grassroots mobilization and recruitment of new members as it seeks to strengthen its presence across the country.

The case underscores the growing political and legal battles surrounding the formation of new political parties as leaders prepare for the 2027 elections.
