Former Taita Taveta County Official Charged Over Alleged Loss of Ksh12.4 Million
A former senior official of the Taita Taveta County Government has been released on a cash bail of Ksh1 million or an alternative bond of Ksh2 million after pleading not guilty to corruption-related charges.
Geoffrey Kimonge Mbogo, who previously served as the Director of Political Affairs in the county government, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Voi on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, where he denied all charges brought against him.
The court further ordered Mbogo to surrender his passport and barred him from travelling outside the country without prior court approval. The matter is scheduled for pre-trial mention on July 1, 2026.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, investigations revealed that Mbogo allegedly fraudulently acquired public funds and failed to account for Ksh12,458,990 during his tenure in the county government.
Following completion of investigations, the EACC forwarded the inquiry file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions recommending criminal charges. The ODPP reviewed the file, agreed with the recommendations, and approved prosecution.
Mbogo is facing charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property contrary to Section 45(1)(a) as read with Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003. He is also charged with deceiving a principal contrary to Section 41(2) as read with Section 48(1) of the same law.
The EACC arrested Mbogo on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, before processing him at Voi Police Station ahead of his arraignment in court.
