Chaos Erupts at ODM Rally in Jacaranda Grounds as Goons Storm Main Dais
An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) political gathering at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds was disrupted on Saturday, October 31, after suspected goons invaded the main dais, triggering violent confrontations that forced party leaders and supporters to flee.
The incident occurred during a rally organised to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Trouble reportedly started when several political aspirants attempted to access the main stage accompanied by their security teams, sparking disagreements and confrontations at the venue.
Tensions escalated when individuals described as unfamiliar faces reportedly gained access to the dais, seized microphones and interrupted proceedings as party leaders were introducing themselves.

As the situation deteriorated, some leaders used the public address system to appeal to the crowd to remain calm and avoid running. However, the appeals failed to contain the unrest as police officers moved in to restore order.
The confrontation subsequently spread beyond the main stage, with running battles breaking out and hundreds of supporters rushing to find safety.
Several senior political figures had attended the gathering, including ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga and Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja were also among those present.
By the time of publication, details regarding possible injuries or arrests had not been confirmed, while the circumstances that led to the disruption remained unclear.

Neither the ODM leadership nor the Nairobi Regional Police had issued an official statement explaining the incident.
The disruption came barely a day after Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud assured ODM officials that security arrangements had been put in place for the event.
Mohamud had indicated that police officers would be stationed along the route connecting Uhuru Park and Jacaranda Grounds to oversee the movement of participants and prevent any security incidents.
He had also warned that law enforcement officers would take action against individuals attempting to interfere with the planned gathering.
