Health Ministry Extends SHA Digital Systems Migration Deadline to November 30
The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for healthcare facilities to migrate to Digital Health Agency (DHA)-certified Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) by one month, setting the new deadline at November 30, 2026.
The extension follows requests from healthcare providers who had not completed the transition from the Social Health Authority (SHA) Provider Portal to the certified digital systems.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, the Ministry said the decision was reached following consultations with SHA and DHA, taking into account the progress made by healthcare facilities and requests for additional time.
According to Duale, all 6,427 public health facilities in Levels 2 to 4 have successfully completed the migration, representing full compliance.
However, only 22 out of 28 public Level 5 facilities have transitioned, translating to 79 per cent compliance. Among faith-based institutions, 190 out of 518 facilities have migrated, representing 37 per cent.
The Ministry also confirmed that 371 private health facilities have successfully completed the transition.
The CS warned that access to the SHA Provider Portal will be deactivated on November 30, 2026, cautioning that facilities that fail to migrate by the deadline could experience disruptions in service verification, pre-authorisation and the submission and processing of claims.
The transition is aimed at ensuring healthcare providers operate through systems certified by the Digital Health Agency as part of efforts to strengthen digital health services under the SHA framework.
Meanwhile, the DHA is continuing to provide technical assistance to healthcare facilities, including system onboarding, integration, troubleshooting, user training and coordination with HMIS vendors.
Facilities requiring assistance have been directed to contact the agency through its helpdesk email, helpdesk@dha.go.ke, or call the toll-free number 147.
Duale further clarified that claims already submitted through the SHA Provider Portal will continue to be processed in accordance with the applicable requirements.
Healthcare providers that are yet to complete the migration have been urged to take advantage of the additional month to finalise the transition and avoid possible interruptions in services to SHA beneficiaries.
