Harry Kane Wins 2026 Ballon d’Or, Ending England’s 25-Year Wait
Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane has won the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English footballer in 25 years to claim the prestigious individual award.
The 33-year-old was crowned the world’s best male footballer during the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Kane’s victory ends England’s long wait for the award since former Liverpool striker Michael Owen won it in 2001.
The England captain enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, scoring 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and the national team across all competitions.

His contribution helped Bayern secure a domestic league and cup double, while he also scored six goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where England finished third.
Kane finished ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, who placed second, and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who came third.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kane reflected on his journey to the top, describing it as a difficult path that required resilience, determination and self-belief.
He also encouraged young footballers around the world to remain committed to their ambitions despite setbacks.
The award marks the first Ballon d’Or of Kane’s career and adds another major individual honour to his achievements after previously winning the European Golden Shoe.
Meanwhile, Spain international Alexia Putellas claimed the Women’s Ballon d’Or for a record-equalling third time.
