Kenya Shujaa Make History with Fifth Consecutive Safari Sevens Title
Kenya’s national men’s rugby sevens team, Shujaa, successfully defended their Safari Sevens crown for a record fifth consecutive year after defeating Kenya Morans 24–5 in an all-Kenyan final at the 28th edition of the tournament.
The victory increased Shujaa’s overall Safari Sevens title tally to 15, further extending their record in the annual competition held in Nairobi.
Shujaa took control after the break, scoring four tries in a dominant second-half display. Rayvon Ambale opened the scoring with a powerful run immediately after halftime before converting his own try.
Victor Mola then showcased his speed and footwork down the right wing to cross the line for another try. Mola finished the tournament as the leading try scorer with eight touchdowns.
Festus Shiasi added to the advantage after connecting with a quick pass from Nigel Amaitsa before diving over in the left corner. John Okoth completed the scoring with a strong finish that sealed the champions’ 24–5 victory.
Morans managed a consolation try through Lucky Onyango but could not mount a comeback. The side had been seeking its first Safari Sevens title since 2019, when Kenya defeated South Africa 19–14.
Shujaa had earlier booked their place in the final with a commanding 36–0 win over the French Renegades in the cup semi-finals. Morans secured the other final spot after beating Shogun 31–10.
In the quarter-finals, Shujaa overwhelmed Wonder 7s 54–5, while Morans defeated SportPesa Fast Forwards 38–15. Shogun advanced after beating Wellington Jaguars 41–5, and the French Renegades edged Zimbabwe 17–12.
