FKF NEC EXPELS MARIGA AND SIX OTHER MEMBERS
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga has been removed from his position and expelled from the federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) following resolutions passed during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Meru.
The motion received overwhelming support, with 65 delegates voting in favour of the removal while only one delegate opposed it.
Six other NEC members were also expelled alongside Mariga. They include:
- Violet Kerubo Momanyi – Women’s Representative.
- Collins Kalee – Nyanza Region Representative.
- Gabriel Mghendi – Coast Region Representative.
- Robert Macharia – Central Region Representative.
- Dan Shikanda – Nairobi Region Representative.
- Benard Korir Lagat – Rift Valley Region Representative.

AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani was reportedly the sole delegate who voted against the motion, while the remaining 65 delegates supported the resolutions.
The decision followed a prolonged leadership dispute between Mariga’s faction and FKF President Hussein Mohammed. The disagreements centred on governance, internal resolutions and the attempted suspension of the federation’s president and other officials in April 2026. Daily Nation+2
According to FKF, the seven officials were expelled over alleged repeated violations of the federation’s constitution and applicable FIFA regulations. The allegations included failure to attend NEC meetings and issuing communications that the federation considered unauthorised. Nairobi News+1
The meeting had earlier been disrupted by chaotic scenes at Three Steers Hotel, where police deployed tear gas as delegates struggled to access the venue. Representatives of FIFA, CAF and the government were also involved in observing the proceedings. Daily Nation+1
Meanwhile, former Harambee Stars captain Allan Wanga has been mentioned as a potential contender for the FKF vice-presidency. However, no official nomination or confirmation of his candidacy has been established in the reports reviewed.
The latest developments mark a significant change in FKF’s leadership structure as the federation continues to navigate its internal governance dispute.
