Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged party members to strengthen their unity and mobilise behind his 2027 presidential ambitions following his reception at the Linda Mwananchi Movement event on Friday, October 30.

Speaking on Saturday, October 31, during a house-warming ceremony hosted by Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Kalonzo attributed the heckling he encountered at the event to the low turnout of Wiper supporters, saying he lacked sufficient backing from his party members.

The former Vice President challenged Wiper leaders and supporters to work collectively, arguing that a coordinated team would strengthen his position as he seeks endorsement as the opposition’s joint presidential candidate against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo expressed disappointment over the number of Wiper members who attended the launch of the Linda Mwananchi secretariat, saying the party needed to improve its mobilisation efforts.

He also pointed to the turnout of supporters accompanying Democratic Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, noting that the group’s coordinated appearance and party branding offered an example Wiper should follow.

The Wiper leader’s remarks came a day after he faced interruptions from sections of the crowd during the Linda Mwananchi event in Nairobi.

The incident followed his disagreement with DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who had declared Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the opposition’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Kalonzo questioned the announcement, maintaining that the process of settling on a joint opposition flagbearer had not been concluded and should involve consultations among interested presidential aspirants.

He further pointed to November 13 as the scheduled date for discussions involving opposition presidential hopefuls, insisting that Sifuna remained a party leader rather than an officially agreed opposition presidential candidate.

The exchange has brought renewed attention to ongoing discussions within opposition ranks over the process of identifying a single candidate to challenge President Ruto in the next General Election.
