MUNICH, Germany — Arsenal fought back to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League after Declan Rice scored a late equaliser at the Allianz Arena.

The highly anticipated encounter on Wednesday night, October 21, 2026, saw both sides exchange goals in an entertaining contest, with Harry Kane putting Bayern ahead from the penalty spot before Rice salvaged a point for the visitors in the closing stages.

The result extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run in Champions League league-phase and group-stage matches to 14 games, while Bayern were left disappointed after surrendering their advantage late in the match.

Eze strikes after Saka injury

Arsenal suffered an early setback when winger Bukayo Saka was forced off with an injury after just 10 minutes. Eberechi Eze came on as his replacement and made an immediate impact.

In the 25th minute, captain Martin Ødegaard delivered an excellent pass behind Bayern’s defence, allowing Eze to run into the penalty area and calmly finish past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

The goal was initially flagged for offside but was awarded following a VAR review, giving Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

Bayern responded with sustained attacking pressure and found their equaliser in the 35th minute. Kane produced an excellent through-ball to release Alphonso Davies, who finished confidently beyond Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya.

The teams went into halftime level at 1-1 after an open first half that featured attacking opportunities for both sides.

Kane puts Bayern ahead

Bayern returned from the break determined to take control of the match, with both goalkeepers called upon to make important saves.

The hosts eventually moved ahead in the 61st minute when Kane converted a penalty after a shot struck Jurrien Timber’s hand inside the Arsenal penalty area.

The England captain sent Raya the wrong way to make it 2-1, putting Bayern in a strong position to claim all three points.

Kane’s contribution extended beyond his goal, as his passing and movement played a crucial role in Bayern’s attacking threat throughout the encounter.

Arsenal, however, refused to give up and increased their attacking intensity as the match approached its final stages.

Rice delivers late equaliser

The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute when Arsenal produced a slick passing move involving Noni Madueke and substitute Viktor Gyökeres.

Gyökeres held up the ball before laying it into the path of the advancing Rice, who drove into the penalty area and fired a precise finish beyond Neuer from an acute angle.

The equaliser silenced the home crowd and restored parity at 2-2, ensuring Arsenal left Munich with a valuable point.

Arsenal pushed for a late winner, and Timber forced Neuer into an important save in stoppage time, but neither side could find another goal before the final whistle.

What the result means

The draw represents a positive result for Arsenal, who showed resilience after falling behind and losing Saka to an early injury.

For Bayern, the match will raise questions about their inability to protect a second-half lead, particularly after Kane’s penalty appeared to put them on course for victory.

Both teams demonstrated their attacking quality, although the result leaves them sharing the points in the Champions League league phase.

Arsenal will now turn their attention to their next domestic assignment against Everton, while Bayern prepare for their upcoming Bundesliga fixture against Borussia Dortmund.
