A Kenyan woman, Ann Wangui, has amused social media users after revealing that her domestic work job in Saudi Arabia reportedly includes taking care of a giant lizard known as an iguana.

Wangui humorously shared her unexpected experience online, explaining that travelling to the Gulf in search of domestic work had come with duties she never anticipated.

“Huku Gulf ukisema unataka kazi ya kadama usishangae ukipata bonus ya kuwa zookeeper,” she wrote, joking that domestic workers should be prepared for unusual responsibilities beyond their normal household chores.

In another playful remark, Wangui suggested that if her employer introduced a crocodile into the household, she would consider it a promotion, even if her salary remained the same.

Her story has sparked laughter online, with many amused by the unusual demands that can accompany domestic work abroad.

Beyond the humour, her experience highlights the importance of Kenyan jobseekers understanding their employment contracts, duties and working conditions before accepting jobs overseas, particularly where responsibilities may extend beyond conventional domestic work.
