The end of an era : Lionel Messi Retires from International Football
Lionel Messi has officially brought his 21-year international career with Argentina to an end after making his final appearance for the national team in a 3–0 friendly victory over Benin in Buenos Aires.
The 39-year-old scored from the penalty spot and provided two assists in his farewell match at the Monumental Stadium, in front of more than 85,000 fans.

Messi finishes his Argentina career as the country’s record appearance holder with 208 caps and record scorer with 126 goals. He won two Copa América titles and the 2022 FIFA World Cup during his international career.
His retirement from international football does not mean the end of his playing career. Messi is expected to continue playing club football with Inter Miami.
