Girona To Play In Europe Next Season
Girona moved a step closer to securing Champions League qualification with an emphatic 4-1 win over Cadiz in La Liga on Saturday, which ensured they will play European football next season.
Girona solidified its hold on third place and guaranteed it cannot finish lower than seventh, the spot that is rewarded with a trip to the Europa Conference League. A fifth- or sixth-place is good for the Europa League, and the top four get the biggest prize of the Champions League.
Girona opened up a 10-point gap over fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao with six more games remaining.
The Catalan club has been the surprise team in Spain so far this season, with statement wins such as the one it earned at defending champion Barcelona last month.
