Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to a further 13 years in prison in connection with the Ksh588 million corruption and money-laundering case involving funds allegedly misappropriated from the Kiambu County Government during his tenure.

The ruling was delivered on Monday, November 2, by the Milimani High Court, with Justice Harrison Barasa imposing separate prison terms on three counts.

Waititu received five years on Count 10, four years on Count 11 and another four years on Count 12, bringing the combined sentences to 13 years. He was also ordered to pay fines totalling Ksh21 million, with alternative jail terms applicable if he fails to settle the penalties.

In his ruling, Justice Barasa said the sentences were determined after considering the mitigation presented by the accused, submissions by the prosecution, the seriousness of the offences and the relevant legal provisions.

However, the latest sentencing will not extend the period Waititu spends in prison. The court directed that the new sentences run concurrently with the 12-year prison term he received in February 2025 in a separate corruption case.

The judge further clarified that the sentences would follow directions previously issued by the High Court in its October 14, 2026 ruling.

In paragraph 317 of the earlier judgment, Justice Rose Ougo had directed that the sentences relating to the three money-laundering charges run concurrently with those imposed under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

Consequently, Waititu will serve the latest sentences alongside his existing prison term rather than having the additional 13 years added to his current sentence.
