IT WAS A KID’S MISTAKE! | Tuchel FUMING With Referee After Bayern Was Denied Clear
Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel was furious at being denied a ‘deserved penalty’ in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal.
Thomas Tuchel: “The referee made a huge mistake, there was a penalty for handball. I know it was a crazy situation. They put the ball down, he whistles and the defender takes the ball with his hands.”
The Gunners were also left feeling aggrieved when Bukayo Saka’s late shout was waved away in a game packed full of drama.
Visitors Bayern appealed for a penalty after Gabriel Magalhaes literally picked up a pass from a David Raya goal kick – believing the ball wasn’t in play despite the referee’s whistle clearly being heard.
The handball offence happened when Bayern were leading 2-1 midway through the second half of the Champions League quarter-final first leg tie.
It proved crucial as Leandro Trossard equalised shortly after, before Saka – who opened the scoring – appeared to be clattered by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the closing stages.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and opposite number Tuchel had contrasting opinions when discussing their respective incidents, with the latter accusing match official Glenn Nyberg of lacking courage.
