McDonald Mariga, the Acting President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), has said the involvement of FIFA signals that the ongoing leadership dispute within Kenyan football is being treated with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.

Mariga noted that FIFA has initiated engagement with local stakeholders to assess the situation and guide the next course of action, in line with its mandate to ensure proper governance and stability within member associations.

“The fact that FIFA is involved shows this matter is being handled at the highest level,” Mariga said, adding that the resolutions passed locally—requiring individuals implicated in the dispute to step aside—remain fully in force.

The directive for certain FKF officials to temporarily vacate office is part of efforts to allow independent investigations into governance and integrity concerns without interference. The move is also aimed at restoring confidence among stakeholders, including clubs, players, and sponsors.

Sources within Kenyan football indicate that FIFA is closely monitoring developments and may recommend further measures, including governance reforms or the establishment of a normalization process, depending on the outcome of ongoing reviews.

The leadership wrangles come at a sensitive time, as Kenya continues preparations for major continental assignments, including co-hosting upcoming CAF tournaments. Analysts warn that prolonged instability within FKF could affect planning, sponsorship, and the country’s football reputation.

Mariga has urged all parties to remain calm and cooperate with the process, emphasizing that transparency and adherence to football governance standards will be key in resolving the crisis.
