Nollywood actor Mr Ibu’s leg was amputated, the family reports
The family of popular Nigerian comedian John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, says his leg has been amputated for medical reasons.
Doctors had no choice but to amputate the limb “to keep him alive”, his relatives said in a statement posted on his Instagram page.
“This situation has been difficult for all of us but we have had to accept it as Father’s new situation,” they wrote.
Okafor, aged 62, has starred in many Nollywood movies including Keziah, 9 Wives and Mr Ibu in London. His family has not revealed the cause of the disease that led to the amputation of his leg. The statement adds that the actor has undergone seven surgeries and needs one more surgery. Nigerian media reports that some of Okafor’s medical expenses have been paid by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Over the years, Mr. Ibu has appeared in numerous Nollywood films, entertaining audiences with his unique brand of comedy. He has shared the screen with some of Nollywood’s biggest stars and has a wide range of roles to his credit. His ability to make people laugh has made him a household name in Nigeria, and his popularity extends beyond the country’s borders.
