Kenya Railways Corporation has announced a new training opportunity through the Railway Training Institute (RTI), as it prepares for anticipated mass recruitment.

The programme targets individuals seeking certification under the internationally recognised Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW), a key requirement for careers in maritime and transport sectors.

The 10-day Basic Safety Training course is designed to equip participants with essential survival and emergency response skills needed for both local and international roles. Training will cover core areas such as personal survival techniques, firefighting, first aid, personal safety, and security awareness—all aligned with global standards.

Sessions will take place at the RTI Kisumu campus along Lake Victoria, offering trainees access to modern facilities and practical simulations that mirror real-life maritime emergencies.

To qualify, applicants must provide a valid national ID or passport, a medical fitness certificate approved by the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), KCSE results or relevant academic certificates, and four passport-size photos.

The course fee has been set at KSh 35,000, making it an accessible option for Kenyans seeking internationally recognised certification without going abroad.

Interested candidates can apply by submitting their documents via email marineinfo@rti.ac.ke or in person at the Kisumu campus.

The training comes amid growing demand for skilled personnel within Kenya Railways, as the government rolls out major railway expansion projects, including the Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba and Voi–Taveta lines aimed at boosting regional connectivity.
