Police Shoot Dead Two Protesters In Mbeere North
Two people were reportedly shot dead after police confronted residents protesting the poor state of Ishiara Level 4 Hospital in Ishiara.
The demonstrations began peacefully, with locals demanding urgent improvements in healthcare services, but later escalated into a deadly clash. Witnesses say police intervened to disperse the crowd, leading to the fatal shootings under unclear circumstances.
Protesters had earlier blocked the busy Embu Highway using stones and debris, disrupting transport for most of the day. Tensions rose in the afternoon when officers moved in, sparking resistance and a confrontation in which live bullets were reportedly used.
The hospital at the center of the protests has faced growing criticism due to worsening conditions, including suspended inpatient services, drug shortages, and lack of food for patients—issues that have fueled public outrage in recent weeks.
