Kenya has detect first case of Ommicron variant among passengers in airports

“We have detected the Omicron variant among passengers in airports,” said Mutahi Kagwe.

CS Kagwe said those hospitalized with Covid-19 in Kenya were still suffering from the Delta variant of the disease, but cases of Omicron were expected to quickly rise since the variant spread very fast.

“It is just a matter of time before Omicron becomes the dominant variant,”

The variant was first detected in South Africa

Although the government is yet to reinstate tough restrictions over Omicron, it has stepped up surveillance to stem infiltration of the new Omicron Covid-19 variant into the country.

Airports and other entry points have especially been marked out for intensive screening to contain the virus.
