A Court in Eldoret Orders IEBC to Extends Voter Registration
The High Court in Eldoret on Monday issued an order stopping IEBC from ending the new voter registration exercise pending the hearing of a case filed by a voter from Uasin Gishu County.
Justice Eric Ogolla, in his ruling, directed that IEBC continue with voter registration exercise, which was to end on Tuesday, November 2 after a 30-day run, be extended to Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
Patrick Cherono a voter from Uasin Gishu filed an application, through his lawyer Kairia Nabasenge arguing that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission had not met its target of registering about six million new voters.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has decried low turnout in the number of people turning up to be registered to vote in the August 2022 election.
