CS Owalo Fires KBC Managing Director Over Ksh770billion Fraud
ICT CS Eliud Owalo has terminated the contract of Samuel Maina as acting Managing Director at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
The MD had apparently offered USD five billion (Ksh.769.5 billion) to Channel 2, instead of the Ksh.5 billion as instructed by the parent ministry.
According to the CS, Maina committed the government to pay over Ksh 770 billion in a case versus (KBC) without seeking the Ministry, National Treasury, and the Office of the Attorney General and Department of justice authorization.
Furthermore, he has selected Paul Macharia, who presently serves as the Communication Economic Expert at the National Communications Secretariat under the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, to assume the role of Acting Managing Director.
Macharia’s term will commence on Tuesday, December 19, and extend for a duration of six (6) months. Additionally, Owalo has instructed the KBC board to fast-track the recruitment process for a permanent Managing Director for the corporation.
