Two Dead, 14 Injured After Fuel Tanker Explodes on Eldoret–Webuye Highway
At least two people have been confirmed dead and 14 others injured after a petrol tanker overturned and burst into flames near Paul Boit Secondary School along the Eldoret–Webuye Highway on Thursday night.
The Kenya Red Cross declared the incident a mass casualty event, deploying emergency teams to the scene alongside the Kenya Police, firefighters and county ambulance services. The injured were evacuated to various hospitals, with some reportedly suffering severe burns.
Preliminary reports indicate that some of the victims were among residents who had rushed to the scene after the tanker overturned and began leaking fuel. The tanker subsequently exploded, engulfing the area in flames.
The Kenya Red Cross urged motorists to avoid the affected section of the highway to allow emergency responders unhindered access as rescue and recovery operations continued.
The exact circumstances that led to the tanker overturning and the full extent of the casualties remain under investigation
