Relief for Mwanda/Mgange Ward Residents After TTC County in partnership with the World Bank jointly Agree to fund the construction of Irienyi/Kokua community water pan
The County Government of Taita Taveta in partnership with the World Bank are jointly funding the construction of Irienyi/Kokua community water pan in Mwanda/Mgange Ward, Taita sub county.
The 30M³ water reservoir mainly targets livestock keepers.
A second site visit conducted on Friday revealed that the project is 60% complete. With excavation works nearing completion, the contractor is also tasked with construction of a pump house, ablution block, cattle trough and installation of a solar fence.
Speaking at Irienyi during the visit County Chief Officer Agriculture and Irrigation Boniface Mwakio ordered the contractor to fastract the project completion to ensure the water pan is ready to store the water as the weatherman has predicted that short rains are expected towards the 2nd week of November.
“We want the community to start reaping the benefits of the project as soon as possible. Let’s ensure that we arrest storm water come the second week of November should the rains begin,” said Mr. Mwakio.
According to the project manager Engineer Simon Musyimi, site meetings are done regularly to assess the project progress as well as to ensure that the works go in line with the engineers expectations.
During the meeting which was also attended by top Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project officials, Deputy Project manager, area Ward Administrator, Ward Agriculture Officer and project management committee (PMC), it was revealed that the PMC will be capacity built to effectively manage the project after its completion.
