JESÚS DE MIGUEL DEATH: AUTOPSY REVEALS ACCIDENTAL CHEST TRAUMA AS OWONO BREAKS SILENCE
Fresh developments have emerged following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, 30, after a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish Segunda División match on Monday, November 2, 2026.
A preliminary autopsy report has identified accidental chest trauma as the cause of De Miguel’s death. However, further medical examinations, including toxicology tests and additional forensic investigations, are still pending before a final determination can be made.
Spanish police, through their Homicide Group, are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the collision on the pitch and the medical attention the striker received before being transferred to hospital.
Meanwhile, Owono has broken his silence for the first time since the tragedy, describing the period as the most difficult days of his life.
In a statement released through FC Andorra, the Equatorial Guinea international said he was struggling to find words to explain what had happened and acknowledged that there would be questions to answer, which he would face with respect.
He added that his thoughts remained with De Miguel and the pain being experienced by everyone affected by his death.
The goalkeeper has also faced online abuse following the incident, prompting his club to offer psychological support to those affected by the tragedy.
On Thursday, November 5, family members, teammates and senior football officials gathered in Navahermosa, Spain, to bid farewell to the late striker. Those in attendance included Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán, national team coach Luis de la Fuente and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
In a message delivered through the family’s representative, relatives thanked football clubs, supporters and well-wishers for their messages of condolence while requesting privacy as they mourn their loved one.
The Spanish Football Federation has also confirmed that the abandoned Tenerife-Andorra match will stand at its existing 2-2 scoreline, while several fixtures involving the affected clubs have been postponed.
Other Spanish league matches will proceed with moments of silence and special tributes honouring De Miguel, who wore the number nine shirt for Tenerife.
The investigations remain ongoing, and authorities have yet to establish any criminal responsibility in connection with the incident.
