Former Taita Taveta Chief Officer and Anglican Clergyman Rev. Silvanus Mwakoma Dies in Tragic Road Accident

The people of Taita Taveta County are mourning the untimely death of Rev. Silvanus Mwakoma, a respected Anglican priest and former County Chief Officer, who died following a tragic road accident along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway at Maungu.

Rev. Mwakoma was widely known for his unwavering commitment to serving both God and the community. As a minister in the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Taita Taveta Diocese, he dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel, offering spiritual guidance, and supporting countless families through his compassion, humility and steadfast faith.

In addition to his ministry, Rev. Mwakoma also served in public office as the Chief Officer for Water, Sanitation, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources in the County Government of Taita Taveta until 2022. During his tenure, he played a key role in advancing initiatives aimed at improving access to water, environmental conservation and sustainable management of natural resources across the county.

The Taita Taveta County Assembly described his death as a great loss, noting that his legacy extends beyond the church to the public service sector, where he was admired for his integrity, dedication and commitment to serving the people.

“His passing is a profound loss not only to his family, but also to the Anglican Church of Kenya, the public service fraternity and the many people whose lives he touched through his ministry, leadership and service,” the Assembly said in a statement.

Leaders, colleagues, members of the clergy and residents have continued to pay tribute to Rev. Mwakoma, remembering him as a humble servant whose life was marked by faith, selfless leadership and a deep commitment to uplifting others.

The County Assembly extended its heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, relatives, fellow clergy, former colleagues and the entire Christian community during this difficult time, praying that God grants them comfort and strength as they mourn his passing.

Rev. Mwakoma leaves behind a legacy of faithful ministry, exemplary public service and unwavering devotion to the people of Taita Taveta.
