Ruto Heads to Azerbaijan to Market Kenya’s Affordable Housing Agenda at Global Urban Forum
President William Ruto has departed for Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate in the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), where Kenya is expected to showcase its affordable housing achievements and seek new global partnerships for urban development projects.
In a statement issued on Saturday, May 16, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said Kenya had earned an invitation to the high-level international forum due to its growing recognition in affordable housing and sustainable urban development initiatives.
The global summit, organised by UN-Habitat, will bring together world leaders, investors, development agencies, city authorities, and civil society organisations to discuss solutions to the rising global housing crisis and the future of urban living.
“President William Ruto departs this evening for Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum, where Kenya has been invited in recognition of its leadership and success in affordable housing and sustainable urban development,” part of the statement read.
During the forum, President Ruto is expected to present Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme, which the government says has played a key role in transforming informal settlements and improving access to decent housing for low-income families.
The government will also use the international platform to attract partnerships, funding, and investment opportunities aimed at expanding affordable housing projects and accelerating urban renewal initiatives across the country.
Among the key projects expected to be highlighted is the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Programme, which is part of the broader plan to modernise urban spaces and improve environmental sustainability in the capital city.
