Bumula MP Jack Wamboka Suspended Over Bribery Allegations as Parliament Orders Probe
Parliament has suspended Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka following serious allegations that he solicited bribes from witnesses appearing before the Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Governance and Education, which he chairs.
The move comes amid growing concern over integrity within parliamentary oversight committees, with lawmakers calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of public resources. Wamboka is accused of attempting to influence proceedings by allegedly demanding kickbacks from individuals appearing before the committee.
In the interim, the committee’s Vice Chairperson Boyd Were will take over leadership duties as acting chair. Meanwhile, Minority Leader Junet Mohamed is expected to nominate a substantive replacement to steer the committee as investigations continue.
The Public Investments Committee plays a critical role in scrutinizing the use of public funds across government institutions, making the allegations particularly sensitive and significant.
Parliament has indicated that a formal probe will be conducted to establish the facts surrounding the claims. Authorities are expected to gather evidence, including testimonies from witnesses who may have been approached, before determining the next course of action.
The suspension underscores Parliament’s stance on ethical conduct, with leaders emphasizing that any form of corruption or misconduct will not be tolerated within its ranks.
The outcome of the investigations could have far-reaching implications, not only for Wamboka’s political career but also for public confidence in parliamentary oversight mechanisms.
