Kenyan police officer killed in Haiti while on patrol, NPS confirms

A Kenyan police officer deployed in Haiti under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission has died after being shot while on patrol, the National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed.

In a statement, NPS said the officer was part of a security team that came under fire from suspected gang members on Sunday, February 23.

He sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The family of the deceased has been notified. The Service conveys its deepest sympathies to family and friends of the fallen Police Officer, and assures them of our unwavering support during this trying period,” the statement read.

Kenya has deployed over 600 police officers to Haiti as part of the UN-backed Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission, with plans to send a total of 1,000 officers.
