The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has secured a resounding victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, with its candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho winning by a huge margin.

According to official results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ngotho garnered 35,440 votes, comfortably defeating UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who received 5,450 votes. Jubilee Party’s Wilson Kigwa finished a distant third with 198 votes.

The outcome marks a major political milestone for the DCP and its leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, as the party continues to strengthen its foothold in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Ol Kalou by-election attracted nationwide attention, with both the ruling UDA and the opposition mounting intensive campaigns in what was widely viewed as a key political contest. The election, however, was marred by isolated incidents of violence and allegations of voter intimidation in some polling stations.

Political analysts are expected to closely watch the implications of the result, which could influence party strategies and alliances as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
