Government Unveils Major Development Projects in Taita Taveta, Including 10,000-Seater Stadium
The National Government has announced the rollout of several major infrastructure projects in Taita Taveta County, including the construction of a modern 10,000-seater stadium at Vindo in Voi.
The proposed stadium is part of the government’s nationwide initiative to expand and modernize sports facilities across the country. Similar projects are already underway or have been completed in counties such as Homa Bay, Kakamega, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Kirinyaga, Garissa, Mandera, and Nyeri.
Once completed, the Vindo Stadium is expected to provide a modern venue for sporting activities, cultural festivals, national competitions, and other large public events. The facility is also expected to boost Taita Taveta’s capacity to host major national functions in the future.

Beyond the stadium project, the government is implementing several other development initiatives across the county. These include the construction of Affordable Housing projects in Voi, Mwatate, Wundanyi, and Taveta, as well as new student hostels at Taita Taveta University and Voi National Polytechnic.
Road infrastructure is also set to benefit through the upgrading of key roads in Wundanyi, Mwatate, and Taveta to improve connectivity and ease the movement of people and goods.
In addition, modern markets are being constructed in Voi, Mwatate, and Maungu to support local businesses and enhance trade. The government has also announced plans to revive the Voi–Taveta railway line, a move expected to improve transport and strengthen cross-border trade between Kenya and Tanzania.
According to the government, the projects form part of its broader national development agenda aimed at improving public infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing access to essential services across the country.
