In a shocking discovery in Kericho Town, authorities exhumed 33 bodies from a mass grave at Makaburini Cemetery, with 25 of the victims confirmed to be children. An exhumation exercise at the Kericho Cemetery unearthed 33 bodies, a significantly higher number than initially reported, with both adults and minors among the remains.

The operation was carried out by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and authorities have indicated the remains include both adults and minors, with a large proportion believed to be children. The discovery marks one of the most significant mass grave findings in Kenya’s recent history.

Earlier reports had indicated that only 14 graves were discovered at the site. New findings paint a chilling picture, with 25 of the remains confirmed to be those of children and eight of them being adults.

DCI had earlier started the exhumation process at the site initially suspected to have at least 14 bodies. The exhumation exercise was overseen by the Director of Homicide, Martin Nyuguto, alongside a government pathologist representing Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor.
