Harambee Stars lose 2-1 to Gabon in World Cup qualifier

Kenyan national team Harambee Star on Sunday lost their World Cup qualifier game against Gabon in a thrilling game that ended 2-1.

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Gabon in the lead in the 16th minute as he followed it with a second goal from the penalty spot at the start of the second half.

Kenyan skipper, Michael Olunga scored the consolation goal for Harambee Stars.

The win puts Gabon at the top of Group F with 15 points ahead of Ivory Coast with 13 points.

Kenya remains in fourth place in Group F with six points.

It is the first time Harambee Stars have played a game in a stadium filled locally in over six years.

The game was also attended by several dignitaries including President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, among others.

While in the recent past Kenya, by Saturday noon, all tickets that were available for the match had been sold out.

This follows calls by a section of Kenyans and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to Kenyans to turn up in numbers as a show of support for the national team.

Announcing the sellout, FKF thanked Kenyans for their unwavering support even as it urged them to not only buy tickets but show up to support their national team.
