President William Ruto appoints Lt Gen CharlesMuriuKahariri as Kenya’s new Chief of Defence Forces, promoting him to General after a brief stint as Vice Chief since March 2024, marking one of the shortest VCDF tenures in kdf history

This following the demise of the former Chief of Defense Forces the late General Francis Ogolla who died in a helicopter crash at Elgeyo Marakwet on 18th of April 2024 alongside nine others.

The President has also promoted Major General John Mugaravai Omenda to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.

Until his appointment Lieutenant Mugaravai was the Kenya Air Force Commander.

Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed takes over as the Kenya Air Force Commander while Major General Paul Owuor Otieno has been posted to Kenya Navy and appointed Commander.

In a statement by the Ministry of Defence, President Ruto has upheld the Defence Council recommendations and made promotions, postings and appointments of KDF Officers.

Major General Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a has been posted to National Defence University and appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration and Finance while Brigadier Peter Nyamu Githinji has been promoted to Major General and appointed Senior Directing Staff, Air at National Defence College.

Others are Brigadier Jattani Kampare Gula who has been promoted to Major General and is now the Managing Director Kenya Meat Commission.

Consequently, Brigadier George Okumu has been appointed Managing Director Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation and Food Processing Factory after being promoted to Major General while Brigadier Samuel Kosgei Kipkorir is the new Deputy Commander Kenya Air Force.
