IG Kanja Orders Changes to Ruto’s Security Detail After Kilifi Breach

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has announced immediate changes to President William Ruto’s security detail following a significant breach during a public event in Ganze, Kilifi County on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The breach occurred when an individual managed to get on stage and touch the President’s shoulders during a thanksgiving event.

William Sawe has been appointed the new Commandant of the Presidential Escort Unit, replacing Noah Kirwa Maiyo. The National Police Service has initiated significant changes within its ranks in response to this security failure. Questions have been raised about the security forces assigned to protect President Ruto following this incident.
