Governor Wakujaa Launches SH200 Million Bursary
Learners in Taita Taveta County have a reason to smile after the county government released Ksh 60 million to the bursary kitty aimed at opening access to education to all students irrespective of their backgrounds.
This is part of the Ksh 200m set aside for bursaries this financial year, the highest for the County since the start of devolution.
“This bursary fund stands as proof of our commitment to the principle that education should be accessible to all, ensuring that no child is at a disadvantage due to limited resources. Due to delays in disbursement of funds from the exchequer, we will issue bursaries in phases to ensure our children stay in school. We urge our school heads to understand us and not send home our needy learners,” Governor Andrew Mwadime Wakujaa said.
Speaking during the launch of the fund at Dawson Mwanyumba stadium Wundanyi , Governor Wakujaa emphasized the importance of unity among leaders.
“I can assure you that those going round doing early campaigns have no interest of the common Mwananchi but they are doing this for their selfish gain. I am focused on my development agenda with support from like minded leaders.”
Governor Mwadime noted that the bursary allocation for this financial year is the most substantial in the County since inception of devolution and is intended to ease the financial strain experienced by many parents and guardians in the County when it comes to educating their children.
“We have doubled the bursary allocation from Ksh100m to 200m this year. This is a clear indication of our commitment to improve our education standards. We urge the students to work extra hard so that we get value for this money,” said H.E Mwadime.
Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo emphasized that the allocation of bursaries and scholarships to students showcases the dedication of the county government to assist students in their academic endeavors.
“The bursary allocation encompasses more than just providing financial assistance but serves as a powerful symbol of hope, empowerment, and opportunity that conveys a resolute message to the students that their dreams are valid, and through perseverance and dedication, they can accomplish their academic dreams.”
Education, Libraries and Vocational Training Centre’s CECM Gloria Monikombo urged the students to grasp the opportunity with utmost determination and commitment, by putting in diligent effort and maintaining discipline.
“Your education is your passport to a brighter future and this bursary is here to support you every step of the way, study hard, dream big, and never lose sight of your goals,’’ Monikombo challenged the students.
Deputy Speaker Anselm Mwadime added that they will work in collaboration with the County Executive, emphasizing that the bursary serves as evidence of the county government’s dedication to education and the county’s future.
The function was graced by County Executive Committee Members, County Assembly Members, CCOs, Directors, officials from the County education office among other education stakeholders.
