Edwin Sifuna Removed from Senate Public Accounts Committee, Reassigned to Agriculture Committee

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed from the Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) and reassigned to the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in the latest changes to committee membership.

The reshuffle, approved by the Senate, sees Sifuna exit one of the House’s most influential oversight committees, which is responsible for scrutinising audit reports and monitoring the use of public funds by county governments.

In his new role, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General will serve in the Agriculture Committee, which oversees legislation and policies relating to agriculture, livestock, fisheries, food security and rural development.

The changes come as part of a broader reorganisation of Senate committee memberships aimed at reconstituting various committees for the current parliamentary session.

Sifuna has been one of the most vocal members of the Senate and played a prominent role in the Public Accounts Committee, where he frequently questioned governors and county officials over the management of public resources and implementation of recommendations by the Office of the Auditor-General.

His reassignment is expected to spark political debate, given his outspoken stance on governance, accountability and national political issues.

The Senate is expected to continue with the reconstitution of other committees as it seeks to enhance oversight and legislative efficiency during the current session.
