Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has received a reprieve from the High Court after his bail terms were revised, pending appeal. Justice Winfrida Okwany allowed the variation, setting bail at Sh20 million in cash from the initial Sh53.5 million.
The High Court has reduced the bail terms for former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, allowing him to secure his release pending appeal. Justice Winfrida Okwany ruled that Waititu can now pay a cash bail of Sh20 million or provide two sureties backed by property worth at least Sh30 million each, replacing the earlier Sh53.5 million bank guarantee requirement.
Waititu was convicted in February 2025 in a Sh588 million graft case, where he was found guilty of conflict of interest and sentenced to either pay a fine of Sh53.5 million or serve 12 years in prison, alongside a seven year ban from holding public office.
