Faith Kipyegon’s silver medal reinstated in 5000m after appeal, Athletics Kenya says
Faith Kipyegon has been reinstated as the silver medallist in the women’s 5000m.
Her controversial disqualification has been rightly overturned, meaning Sifan Hassan will now receive the bronze medal, and Nadia Batocletti will miss out on the podium.
It’s been a stressful couple of hours for these women, and while this doesn’t excuse the appalling handling of this decision, at least the correct result has finally emerged.
Kenya’s team officials led by Milka Chemos, Bernard Ouma and Team Manager Peter Angwenyi successfully appealed and won her case.
