Six Killed, Including Three Students, in Tragic Crash Along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway
At least six people, including three students, have lost their lives following a devastating road accident involving a private van, a trailer and a 14-seater matatu at Lessos Junction in the Mlima Punda area along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The crash, which occurred on Thursday, left several other passengers with serious injuries. Emergency responders, police officers and members of the public rushed to the scene to rescue victims, with some passengers trapped inside the mangled wreckage of the vehicles.
The injured were taken to Burnt Forest Hospital and Plateau Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Authorities are yet to disclose the identities of those who died as efforts continue to notify their families.
Confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Traffic Enforcement Officer Cornelius Chesimet said investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision.
The accident once again highlights growing concerns over road safety on the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, one of Kenya’s busiest transport corridors, which has witnessed numerous fatal crashes in recent years.
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, observe traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
