Arsenal beat Porto 4-2 on penalties in their Champions League round-of-16 tie on Tuesday, March 12

Arsenal’s quarterfinal wait is over – seven failed attempts but the Gunners have finally progressed beyond the round of 16 once again.

Trailing 1-0 after the first leg in Portugal, Arsenal opened the scoring and levelled the tie just before half-time through Leandro Trossard. Neither side could find the elusive winning goal during the 90 minutes and after extra time forcing the teams to go on penalties.

Raya gave the home side’s match winner after saving two Porto penalties, while the hosts were perfect from the spot to advance to the last eight of Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since 2010.

Before Tuesday night, Arsenal had not won a Champions League knockout tie for 14 years when Arsene Wenger’s side beat Porto 6-2 on aggregate.
