KISII COUNTY DEPUTY GOVERNOR ROBERT MONDA IMPEACHED BY SENATE

Senators have voted to uphold the removal from office of Kisii County Deputy Governor Robert Monda by impeachment.

Monda lost his seat on Thursday after the majority of Senators voted to uphold the four charges against him by the members of the Kisii County Assembly.

He becomes the first deputy governor to be impeached, since the start of devolution in Kenya, in 2013. He, however, is the second DG to have his case determined by the Senate after Siaya’s William Oduol.

Hon Senators voted as follows on the four charges:

  1. Gross violation of the Constitution or any other law – 39/43 2.
  2. Abuse of Office – 39/43 3.
  3. Gross Misconduct – 35/43 4
  4. Crimes Under National Law – 32/43
