Kenya lead Group J as Cameroon draw in Kampala
Kenya’s Harambee Stars have taken control of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group J with a 2-1 victory over Namibia in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening. This crucial win propelled Kenya to the top of the group with four points after two matches.
Their campaign began with a goalless draw against Zimbabwe last Friday in Kampala, Uganda. Both Kenya and Namibia have been playing their CAF matches away from home due to the lack of suitable CAF approved stadiums in their respective countries.
In a thrilling second-half display at Orlando Stadium, goals from John Avire and Duke Abuya secured the win for Kenya, marking a significant step in their quest for AFCON qualification. The victory serves as a major morale boost as Kenya continues their journey towards the continental tournament.
Meanwhile, in Kampala, Cameroon’s hopes of securing an easy win were dashed as they were held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe. Cameroon, who now sit second in the group, are level with Kenya on four points but trail due to an inferior goal difference. They previously opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Namibia last weekend in Douala.
