Blow as Geoffrey Kamworor pulls out of Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Geoffrey Kamworor has pulled out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to an ankle injury! Not the news we wanted to hear. Wishing Kamworor quick recovery!
The Tokyo Olympics have officially began today but Geoffrey Kamworor will not be representing Kenya.
“It’s sad that I am out of the Olympics. This problem started two weeks ago when doctors found out that there was a lot of pressure in my knee. An x-ray screen showed that I had sustain a stress fracture. I am disheartened that I will miss the Olympics. I will miss to fight another day” He said in an Interview with Standard Media
Kamworor and Kwemoi had staged a brilliant show inside Kasarani Stadium during the national trial that wowed a sizeable crowd that included Deputy President William Ruto.
The 28-year-old is a three times world Half Marathon champion and previous world record holder, and had hopes of a medal in the 10,000m after winning the national trials.
He won silver at the 2015 world championships in Beijing, behind Britain’s Mo Farah.
The injury comes after he was hit by a motorcycle while training near his home in June last year, suffering a fracture.
Geoffrey developed a painful spot in his foot which is preventing him from being able to run 25 laps on the track on spikes by next week
The Tokyo Olympics, delayed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, officially kick-off on Friday in a much more pared-down fashion than is typical for what is considered the world’s greatest sporting event.
Men’s 10,000m final is scheduled to take place on July 30.
