The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has picked former Attorney General Githu Muigai to lead its legal team in the presidential petition.

The electoral body contracted the accomplished lawyer to lead its team of advocates following a confirmation by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga that he will contest the results of the presidential elections at the Supreme Court.

Githu will lead a team of more than 10 experienced lawyers in the anticipated presidential election petition by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Muigai will be making a consecutive appearance in a presidential elections petition, having been enjoined as a friend of the court in Raila’s 2017 election petition.

As a friend of the court, known as Amicus Curiae, the then Attorney General was an independent respondent and only offered his legal opinion to the bench.
