Veteran Nollyhood Actor, John Okafar Alias Mr Ibu, Passes On

Nigerians are mourning popular Nollywood actor John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, who has died at the age of 62.

Mr. Ibu had been in and out of hospital. The veteran comedian passed away on Saturday March 2, 2024 at Evercare hospital in Lagos.

Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the passing of Mr Ibu, revealing that the esteemed actor succumbed to a cardiac arrest on Saturday, March 2.

“I announce with deep sense of grief that Ibu didn’t make it. Mr Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years,”

In November 2023, his family appealed for financial help as the actor underwent seven surgeries, according to a statement shared through his Instagram account.

“As of 1 pm, noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery one of his legs had to be amputated.,” the statement read in parts
