Hon. Isaac Matolo, MCA Mata ward has on 5th December, 2023 during sitting no. 088 of the Second Session sought a statement from the Chairperson of Committee on Transport, Roads, Public Works and Infrastructure Development on the sustainable methods of maintaining County Roads.
Hon. Matolo, who is also the Chairperson of the Tourism Committee, said that the County Government has over years been carrying out road maintenance works by murraming, grading and levelling County Roads.
The legislator added that despite the efforts by the County Governments to maintain good road infrastructure network, the roads are usually carried away during rainy seasons.
Hon. Matolo asked the Chairperson of Committee on Transport, Roads, Public Works and Infrastructure Development to furnish the House with the following information:
- If there are alternative ways of maintaining County roads to ensure their durability even during rainy seasons
- The cost difference between what we are accustomed to and other models which could serve us for longer periods
- If there enhancements which can be done on our murram roads to make them last longer than is currently the case
- If the department ensures quality of works is done before issuing out certificates of completion and payments to the contractors
The Committee on Transport, Roads, Public Works and Infrastructure Development through Hon. Peter Shambi requested for days for the committee to be able to table a detailed report with all the information.
