President Ruto and Raila ride together to the AU Headquarters
President William Ruto and Raila Odinga departed together on Saturday morning for the African Union (AU) elections centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event, to be held at the African Union Conference Centre, will see Odinga compete against Madagascar’s Richard Randriamato and Djibouti’s Mahmoud Youssouf for the position of chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
In a show of solidarity, President Ruto and Raila were seen being escorted to the car they would use to travel together for the AUC elections scheduled for this afternoon. The gesture underscores the Kenyan government’s strong support for Odinga’s candidacy.
Since Odinga announced his intention to vie for the AUC post, President Ruto has been actively leading his campaign, securing numerous endorsements from various countries and regional blocs in support of the Kenyan candidate.
Ruto firmly believes that Odinga will advocate for Africa’s collective priorities, safeguard its interests, and accelerate the continent’s development agenda.
“Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is vying for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC). His vast experience, dedication to pan-African ideals and commitment to fostering integration make him an excellent candidate to lead the African Union Commission at this pivotal time,” Ruto stated.
