ODM MP Wants Pastor James Ng’ang’a Arrested
Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Church has once again come under criticism after a video of him slapping a congregant went viral on social media platforms.
The one-minute video shared on various digital platforms attracted backlash from Kenyans, including the political class, with many calling for decisive action against the preacher.
Among them is Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament George Kaluma, who urged the government to take stern measures and stop Ng’ang’a’s provocative actions.
Taking to his X account on Saturday evening, Kaluma called for the immediate prosecution of Ng’ang’a, terming his actions an abuse of the worshipper’s rights.
The vocal lawmaker also demanded the deregistration of the Neno Evangelism Church as a worship centre to serve as a lesson to preachers with similar traits.
Kaluma alleged that failure to tame Ng’ang’a’s actions could plunge the country into another Shakahola-like tragedy that saw hundreds of families lose their loved ones to a cult disguised as a worship centre in Kilifi.
“This is so bad! Kenya needs to prosecute and stop characters like Ng’ang’a, and to deregister ‘churches’ like Neno Evangelism, whose leader openly abuses worshipers, before we witness another Shakahola-type massacre,” Kaluma commented.
In the video circulating online, Ng’ang’a was recorded hurriedly approaching a congregant who had dozed off during a preaching session before subsequently slapping the male listener.
Additionally, in the clip, Ng’ang’a was heard making verbal insults at the congregant before forcefully expelling him from the church service.
He then turned to the woman who was seated beside the sleeping man, questioning why she let her neighbour sleep. “Why are you letting him sleep?” Ng’ang’a questioned.
In response, the woman claimed she did not notice the man sleeping since she was concentrating on the sermon. Despite the woman’s response, Ng’ang’a threatened to kick out the female congregant before changing his mind and allowing her to stay.
It is not the first time Ng’ang’a has come under harsh criticism over his outrageous actions. In February this year, he was slammed for allegedly embarrassing a woman who had sought his help to pay house rent.
Milka Moraa’s landlord had locked her house after she was unable to raise the rent. Thinking that her pastor would help her, she ran to Ng’ang’a seeking a way forward, only to be met by abuse and embarrassment after the pastor asked her to go for affordable houses if she couldn’t afford her rent.
