The Orange Democratic Movement’s 20th anniversary gathering in Mombasa on November 14, 2025, became a platform for airing grievances about the party’s future direction, following the recent passing of longtime leader Raila Odinga. East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga delivered a forceful address cautioning against attempts to undermine the party through covert actions.

The legislator alleged that certain individuals were walking alongside party members during the day while attempting to arrange the party’s sale through nighttime maneuvers. She emphasized that ODM was not created in private settings and therefore its destiny cannot be determined through secretive discussions. She reminded attendees that the movement emerged from demonstrations and was sustained through resistance, with supporters enduring hardship for Kenya’s sake.

The younger Odinga acknowledged discussions about divisions within the organization, describing them as meaningless noise that wouldn’t prevent the party from achieving its objectives. She stressed that despite her father’s departure, ODM must maintain its resolve and warned that the organization wouldn’t be quietly surrendered to opponents.
